When driving in the US or UK, road signs show distances in miles. If you are planning a trip and need to estimate fuel stops or travel time in metric units, multiply each mile marker by 1.609. Fuel economy conversions are not linear. 30 mpg is not “half” of 60 mpg in terms of fuel consumed. 30 mpg uses 3.33 gallons per 100 miles, while 60 mpg uses 1.67 gallons per 100 miles. Always convert using the L/100km formula, not simple ratios.
