Feet-to-inches-to-meters conversion can accumulate rounding errors. If you convert 5.5 ft to inches (66 in) and then to meters (1.6764 m), you get a different result than 5.5 × 0.3048 = 1.6764 m. Both are correct, but intermediate rounding to whole inches loses precision.
Room dimensions in real estate listings often use nominal measurements. A “12 ft room” might actually measure 11 ft 8 in due to wall thickness and framing. Converting the nominal number to meters gives a slightly larger value than the real dimension.
