Drop a photo and get a clean cutout with a transparent background in seconds. This tool runs a neural network (U2-Net) directly in your browser. No images are sent to any server. The AI analyzes each pixel to separate the foreground subject from the background, producing a transparent PNG you can use anywhere.
The tool uses salient object detection, a technique that identifies the most visually prominent subject in an image. The U2-Net architecture processes your image through multiple layers that capture features at different scales, from large shapes down to fine edge details. Each pixel gets a probability score for whether it belongs to the foreground.
Product photos, portraits, animals, and objects with clear edges against distinct backgrounds produce the cleanest results. E-commerce product shots on white or solid backgrounds are the ideal case. Portraits with shallow depth of field also work well because the contrast between subject and background is high.
Semi-transparent materials (glass, smoke, thin fabric), very fine details (individual hair strands, fur edges), and subjects that closely match their background color are the hardest cases. This is a fundamental limitation of the model resolution rather than a bug.
The output is a PNG with transparency. Use it directly in presentations, web designs, or documents. If you need a white background instead of transparent, the passport photo maker handles that workflow. For format conversion or resizing, use the Image Converter.
White backgrounds are standard in product photography and catalog listings. Color-threshold tools that delete white pixels also erase white shirts, paper, reflections, and light skin. This tool separates subject from background by object detection, so off-white, cream, and light grey backgrounds are handled without touching white parts of the subject. Logos saved as JPEG with a white box instead of transparency are a common case: drop the JPEG in, get a transparent PNG back.
