Generate random UUID v4 identifiers online. Cryptographically secure, RFC 9562 compliant, with bulk generation for test data and API keys.
UUID version 4 is the fully random UUID: 122 bits of cryptographic randomness wrapped in the standard 8-4-4-4-12 text format. No timestamp, no machine address, no sequence. Two generators on opposite sides of the planet produce non colliding IDs without coordination, which is exactly why v4 became the default unique ID for APIs, test fixtures, and distributed systems.
| Segment | Example | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| time_low | 550e8400 | random |
| time_mid | e29b | random |
| version | 41d4 | starts with 4 |
| variant + clock | a716 | starts with 8, 9, a, or b |
| node | 446655440000 | random |
The version and variant nibbles are fixed by the spec, so validation is cheap: check the shape with a regex and confirm the 13th hex digit is 4.
import uuid
str(uuid.uuid4())
crypto.randomUUID()
SELECT gen_random_uuid();
Seeding a test database with 10,000 users needs 10,000 unique primary keys without a round trip to the database. Bulk generate v4 IDs, insert them directly, and every row is unique with zero coordination. For keys where index locality matters instead, use the UUID v7 Generator and read the full v4 vs v7 comparison.
