Convert UTC to EST instantly. See the time difference between Coordinated Universal Time and Eastern Standard Time, including DST handling.
Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) is the global reference clock. Eastern Standard Time (EST) runs 5 hours behind it. When it is 12:00 PM UTC, it is 7:00 AM EST in New York. From March to November the East Coast switches to Eastern Daylight Time (EDT, UTC-4) and the gap narrows to 4 hours.
| UTC | EST (winter) | EDT (summer) |
|---|---|---|
| 12:00 AM | 7:00 PM prev day | 8:00 PM prev day |
| 6:00 AM | 1:00 AM | 2:00 AM |
| 12:00 PM | 7:00 AM | 8:00 AM |
| 2:00 PM | 9:00 AM | 10:00 AM |

US daylight saving starts the second Sunday of March and ends the first Sunday of November. On those two days the UTC offset for New York changes, so a standing meeting at a fixed UTC time lands one hour off in local terms. Always convert with the date attached, which is what the tool above does.
